These days media discovered that this-year reinforcement of Real from Madrid, Van der Vaart is passionate fan of Real’s most bitter rival – Barcelona. That wasn’t so hard to find out because Van der Vaart publicly expressed his devotion to Catalonian club in earlier years. At the end of 2002 he said to Sport from Barcelona that he will stay one more year in Ajax and that then he would like to play for Barcelona. Then he emphasized that his grandfather wouldn’t forgive him if he went to another club. His grandfather is originally Spanish and since a young boy he stuff in his grandson’s heart love towards the biggest Catalonian club. A year later, Van der Vaart again repeated that Barcelona is his greatest wish:

- If I go to Spain I hope I will end up in Barcelona. That club really attracts me. I have always cheered for them and I would be happy if I could put my foot on grass of Kamp Nou.



After everything, maybe his grandfather will forgive him but it is questionable what will say fans of Real about that.
