Rafael Nadal won Wimbledon and what is more important is that he confirmed he is the best tennis player in the world…
Rafael Nadal was so far untouchable on the clay while on the grass he was improving from year to year so much that he has kept his position on the ATP list. Roger Federer was the king of all of the rest of the courts and Wimbledon is already for years reserved for the Swiss. Still, for already few months we have been watching Federer starting to be woundable. Firstly on hard grounds and clay but even on the grass he is no longer untouchable. After Roland Garros where he was swept from the court by Nadal, Wimbledon should have been trump for Federer to hit back but also to show he is still unbeatable no.1. After this-year Wimbledon final, irrespective of the position on the ATP list, it is completely clear that Rafael Nadal is at this moment the best player in the world. All stories how he is the king of clay and he can’t hope to anything on the grass fell straight into water. Statements which have been given by Federer in the last year that he doesn’t see Djokovic as a threat and that the real threat is Nadal are now shown as true and realistic. In the most beautiful and the most exciting final of Wimbledon and maybe in a tennis match ever played, Rafael Nadal showed top playing with small number of mistakes. Roger Federer was a great opponent but he wasn’t that Federer to who we are used to watch. Whenever he had an opportunity to make a break or win a set Federer showed mental unstableness and he made beginner’s mistakes. He acted like that probably because of knowing that on the other side of the net is Nadal looking like the way he isn’t used to watching him on the grass. First two sets were won by Nadal, both with equal break – 6:4, 6:4. Federer had his opportunities for break and different outcome in both of the sets but in the most important moments he didn’t react on the no.1 tennis player level. The third set brought a lot of uncertainty but Nadal was still dominating and Federer was the one who had to defend. Rain caused a short break of the match just enough for Federer to find himself and to lower Nadal’s advantage in tie-break to 2:1. In fourth set was a similar story, a tie-break again and Federer got it again. The fifth set brought a lot of excitement, lots of great moves on both sides. Even though they came into 7th hour since the start of the match no one in audience wanted this match to end. A spectacle like this can be seen rarely. Tension came to its peak when the match was almost interrupted because of the rain when the result was 5:5 and 40:40 on Federer’s service. When they came back on the court he won that set, then Nadal won his and so they went to break and final 9:7 for Nadal and victory on Wimbledon as accomplishment of a dream for which is was though till now that it will never come true. Technically, Federer couldn’t do more in this match. Practically he didn’t. This is probably the hardest strike for Federer since he became no.1 and most probably the final demonstration that the Swiss came to his peak and that he is now on going-down track. You can like Nadal or not but you cannot deny that he is physically, technically and tactically in front of everyone in this moment. How long it will last doesn’t depend just on him but on the others. Federer has already showed few times this year that he is slowly getting Nadal’s inhibition and that Djokovic still hasn’t reached mental maturity for continuing top results. So, coroneted king is alive but another is ruling the world tennis. Rafael Nadal.
